Ramadan 1447 Reflections
Ramadan Mubarak to our wonderful community.
It has been a while since we've written on the blog and it felt like a good time to post a reflection whilst taking a step back during this beautiful month.
I know we can't be the only ones feeling it, but in recent years, Ramadan has become increasingly commercialised. Everywhere we turn, we see beautifully curated decor and tablescapes, exclusive collections, carefully styled gatherings, and targeted marketing campaigns. While there is nothing inherently wrong with celebrating in ways that bring joy to our homes, it can sometimes feel like the essence of Ramadan is quietly overshadowed.
Try not to get caught up in the aesthetic.
The pressure to do more, host more, buy more and decorate more. Brands capitalise on the season, while social media amplifies the hype. And before we know it, our focus shifts from spiritual preparation to visual presentation.
Ramadan is a sacred month gifted to us by Allah; a month of mercy, forgiveness, reflection, and deep spiritual renewal. The real barakah is not found in perfectly styled iftar tables, but in intentional moments of ‘ibadah, sincere du‘aa, and quiet acts of sacrifice done solely for His sake.
Moving Beyond Routine
It always takes a few days to settle into the rhythm of fasting. Our bodies adjust surprisingly quickly. We wake before dawn, we fast until sunset, we break our fast, we pray. And soon, it can start to feel like a routine.
But there is nothing routine about Ramadan.
This month is sacred. It is an invitation to transformation. The question is not just how we fast, but how we feel while fasting. Are we simply abstaining from food and drink - or are we getting closer to Allah?
The sweetness of Ramadan is not automatic. It is cultivated.
Finding the Sweetness
The sweetness of Ramadan can be found in small, deeply personal ways:
✨Letting go of something you love for the sake of Allah. Whether it’s a favourite treat, excessive screen time, or unnecessary spending.
✨Giving charity from something you feel attached to, not just what feels spare.
✨Protecting your time as carefully as you protect your fast.
✨Choosing presence over performance.
✨Sitting in stillness after salah instead of rushing to the next task.
Ask yourself: What do I hold onto most tightly?
Sometimes Ramadan teaches us to loosen that grip.
Whether it’s food, time, money, comfort, or even our image. Releasing it for Allah softens the heart and reconnects us to our purpose.
Practical Ways to Be Intentional This Ramadan
Here are a few gentle reminders to keep the focus where it belongs:
🌙 Set a private goal
Choose one act of worship that is just between you and Allah — something no one else knows about.
🌙 Simplify your iftars
Not every meal needs to be elaborate. The Prophet ﷺ lived simply, and simplicity often brings clarity.
🌙Give in a way that stretches you
True charity is felt. Give something meaningful.
🌙Reflect daily
Ask yourself each evening: Did I grow today?
Slow Down
Ramadan passes quickly. The days blur. Before we realise it, we are bidding farewell to another blessed month.
Slow down...Be selective with your energy. Be intentional with your time. Protect your heart from distractions that dilute the experience.
Because the goal is not to complete Ramadan. The goal is to be changed by it.
A Reminder from the Prophet ﷺ
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Whoever fasts Ramadan out of faith and in hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.”
— Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim
And Allah reminds us in the Qur’an:
“O you who believe, fasting has been prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may attain taqwa.”
— Qur'an (2:183)
May this Ramadan be one of depth over display, sincerity over show, and transformation over routine.
May Allah place barakah in our time, purify our intentions, soften our hearts, and allow us to leave this month closer to Him than we have ever been before.
اللَّهُمَّ بَلِّغْنَا رَمَضَانَ وَأَعِنَّا عَلَى صِيَامِهِ وَقِيَامِهِ وَتَقَبَّلْ مِنَّا
O Allah, allow us to reach Ramadan, help us to fast and pray in it, and accept it from us 🤲
- With love, Ayesha & Leya ♡
